ZeroPM celebrates its halfway point in Berlin

by Sarah Hale

ZeroPM has reached its halfway point of 30 months. In March 2023 the project held its third Consortium Meeting in Berlin at the Federal Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). Each of the ZeroPM work packages presented an update on their work and we discussed how to synergize links going forward to enable the ambitions of the Chemicals Strategy to become an on-the-ground reality.

The ZeroPM consortium met in Berlin to mark 30 months of project work. The consortium meeting was held in the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV). We were lucky enough to be joined by Marc Brandt (BMUV), Division C II 4 Chemical Risk Assessment and Risk Management, who told us about the work the Ministry was doing related to PMT/vPvM substances. The Consortium meeting featured an update from all the ZeroPM work packages: Alternatives Assessment, Policy, Market Transition, Substance Grouping, Risk Assessment, Technical Solutions and Dissemination and Communication.

We discussed Prioritization in detail, preparing for the next ZeroPM workshop that will take place in Dessau in September 2024 (more info and registration here – https://zeropm.eu/events/upcoming-events/). The substances and substance groups that will be prioritized were discussed, we started planning the next update to the SIN List, rolled out the ZeroPM Global Chemical Inventory and looked at the Risk Matrix that will be a focus of the workshop in September. The second day of the Consortium meeting featured our colleagues from PROMISCES from Kompetenzzentrum Wasser Berlin and Berliner Wasserbetriebe who are working with technical solutions.

The consortium meeting showed us we have achieved a lot towards our project goals, and we cant wait for the next 30 months!
